The Dancing Cat’s 8th Anniversary Matching Challenge - May 2023

To celebrate our 8th year of cat adoptions and help us continue our commitment to the most vulnerable cats, The Dancing Cat is delighted to announce our goal of raising $80,000 in May! We are thrilled to have reached this milestone together with you, our cat-loving community, and are heartened by the impact we continue to have here in San José. Between now and May 31, a very generous group of donors has come to the rescue and together offered a lightning-fast challenge grant in the amount of $80,000. This means your tax-deductible donations will be doubled and we have a chance to raise up to $160,000! We’re very grateful for this opportunity to replenish our savings and humbly ask for your support in honor and celebration of our 8 years of service. A donation of any size helps us reach our goal and is deeply appreciated, thank you for your kind generosity.

How the funds will be used

The Dancing Cat's mission is twofold; to rescue cats from the San Jose Animal Care Center, and to create a community of cat lovers. As in life, one of the realities of rescue is negotiating health and healing. We truly believe every life matters, and we rescue wonderful cats with known health conditions. Inevitably we also rescue cats with health concerns that do not reveal themselves until after they are in our foster homes. At any given time, we find ourselves caring for cats with conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, and ringworm. We go to great lengths on behalf of these cats: we have enrolled a cat in a clinical trial to find a cure for stomatitis, and we have used cutting-edge medication for cats with FIP. We consult with specialists as needed, and we do what we can so that every cat has his or her best chance of living a long and healthy life.

The number eight sideways resembles the infinity symbol, which inspired us to flip our anniversary into something even more impactful: a fundraising challenge. This is an ambitious goal but veterinary costs in 2023 are already nearing $50,000 and counting. With your generous donation we know there are infinitely more hearts to touch, homes to fill with love, lives to change, and impact to make on behalf of vulnerable cats who need our help.

Second Chances

Queen Penelope Von Snorflepants, or Queen P for short, was found in East San Jose with wounds on her neck that needed urgent attention from a veterinarian. Upon examination it was discovered that this resilient little wonder was a mere 4.4 pounds at the age of 9!

Queen P is very unique because she is a munchkin cat, which means she has much shorter legs caused by a genetic mutation. Fending for herself on the streets the way she did is a miracle given her size. Although she was suffering from malnourishment and infections her beautiful spirit was unchanged.

Queen P strutted into her foster queendom with all the pomp befitting a royal and soon gained enough good health to join her subjects at The Dancing Cat. Guests swooned, volunteers fussed, and all who gazed upon her unique countenance were smitten. Her little snores only added to her charm. We are delighted that, after the proper care she received thanks to donors like you, she is ruling over her forever home where she will never face harm again. Can you help us save more cats like Queen P?

An Opportunity for Generosity
